A 0 million casino that the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians want to build in Fruitport Township, Michigan awaits a decision by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to put 60 acres that was once the Great Lakes Downs racetrack into trust.

The casino would include 69,000 square feet of gaming, with 1,700 slot machines, 35 gaming tables, a 220-room hotel, conference space, restaurants and entertainment space. It will employ about 1,500.

Currently the BIA is reviewing the environmental impact statement for the proposed casino. The BIA will hold a public hearing after it completes the review.

The tribe has already signed municipal service agreements with Muskegon County and Fruitport Township, which both publically support the casino.

This would be the second casino for the tribe, which presently operates the Little River Casino Resort in Manistee near where U.S. 31 and M-22 meet. It employs about 800 people. Besides a casino, the property has a hotel, RV park and concert venue.
