Stadium Casino, the Pennsylvania gaming licensee owned by Baltimore’s Cordish Companies, announced that it has begun hiring to fill more than 500 positions at Live! Casino Pittsburgh, the mini-casino tied to the Stadium Casino Philadelphia license.
The $150 million mini-casino, under construction at a former Bon-Ton anchor store location at Westmoreland Mall in the Western Pennsylvania town of Greensburg, is slated to open by the end of the year—around the same time as the primary licensee, the Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia, located in the heart of that city’s pro sports stadium district.
Mini-casinos, technically Category 4 casinos, were created under Pennsylvania’s 2017 gaming expansion law. They must be tied to a current license, and they are limited to 750 slot machines and 40 table games. The initial auction of mini-casino licenses yielded five bids, but none of the facilities have yet opened. Live! is expected to be the first, or at least one of the first two to open, with another mall casino, Penn National’s casino at York Galleria, slated to open around the same time.
Job seekers can apply at the website WorkatLive.com for managerial and supervisory positions. Three virtual community information sessions for specific job qualifications were held on July 21. A recruitment center will open in August at Westmoreland Mall.
“We are anxious to meet many more of our area residents to share the highlights of our casino, along with the potential career opportunities available to them,” Sean Sullivan, casino vice president and general manager, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
A dealer school will be held in partnership with Westmoreland County Community College beginning August 17, for up to 70 new dealers. Another 60 experienced dealers are being recruited.
