London Calling in Macau

Reports say Sands Cotai Central (l.) will renovate its four hotel towers to create a faux London in Macau. The Sands also owns and operates the Venetian and Parisian Macao resorts in the gaming hub.

Big Ben, big buses could be part of theme

Sands China’s Sands Cotai Central property may soon be overhauled to look like London. The report attributed to an unnamed source says four hotel towers at the complex—the St. Regis, the Sheraton, the Conrad and the Holiday Inn—will join two other properties named for the great metropolitan cities of the world: the Venetian Macao, which opened in 2007, and the Parisian Macao, which debuted last year.

“The decision is done, it’s now just a matter of starting to work on it,” the source told Macau Business. Iconic imagery could include the British capital’s famous double-decker buses and the tower of Big Ben.

The plan—which has not been confirmed by the Las Vegas Sands’ Asian subsidiary—could be a way to offset falling revenues at Sands Cotai Central. Macau Business reported that SCC saw a drop of 5.9 percent in the second quarter to US$445 million.
