Louisiana Considers Fantasy Sports Bill

Louisiana state Rep. Joe Lopinto has introduced a bill to legalize fantasy sports gaming in the state. The bill treats fantasy sports as skill-based and not gambling.

Louisiana is the latest state to consider legalizing fantasy sports prizes under a new bill introduced by Louisiana state representative Joe Lopinto.

Louisiana is one of five states that bans real-money games on daily fantasy sports websites.

Lopinto said that the move is not an attempt to change the state’s gambling laws, but rather to have fantasy sports categorized as skill-based and not gambling.

“We’re not betting on the outcome of a game or a point spread. Fantasy Football is a game of skill,” Lopinto told reporters. “We’re just clarifying that this is not gambling.”

Lopinto also said that there is an “outcry” for fantasy sports in the state, which could benefit from its legalization.
