Louisiana Mobile Sports Betting Surpasses Retail

For the first four days of legalized sports betting in Louisiana, January 28-31, the state’s six mobile sportsbooks took in $40.5 million. Thirteen retail sportsbooks took in $49.3 million for the entire month.

Louisiana Mobile Sports Betting Surpasses Retail

Six mobile sportsbooks in Louisiana took $40.5 million in bets from January 28 through January 31, the first four days of legalized sports wagering, according to a Louisiana Gaming Control Board report. In comparison, the state’s 13 retail sportsbooks took in $49.3 million during the entire month of January, up 24 percent over $39.5 million in December and $27.6 million in November.

Altogether, bettors wagered about $j89.8 million in January, producing $2.7 million in revenue for the state at a 6.7 percent hold. Retail sportsbooks produced $5.3 million in revenue at a hold of 10.8 percent.

Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chair Ronnie Johns granted sports betting licenses to six sportsbook for the January 28 launch: Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook. In total, the sportsbooks spent $11.7 million in promotions during those first four days. Mobile sportsbooks lost a total of $9 million after adjusting for promotional spending. State law allows sportsbooks to deduct up to $5 million a year in promotional spending.

A seventh mobile sportsbook, WynnBET, launched February 10. In addition, two retail sportsbooks opened in January: Amelia Belle and   Sam’s Town.

Louisiana allows 20 sports betting licenses; each can operate up to two online skins. Also, the Louisiana Lottery is allowed to operate an online sportsbook and kiosks at lottery retailers.
