‘Lucky 21’ Card Club Closes

A Washington card room, the Lucky 21 Casino (l.), turned out not to be all that lucky. It closed abruptly last week, possibly the victim of the opening of the $510 million ilani Casino Resort that opened in 2017.

‘Lucky 21’ Card Club Closes

The Oak Tree Casino in Woodland, Washington, aka Lucky 21 Casino, closed last week for the last time. The Oak Tree restaurant closed in December.

The Columbian reported that the “latest closure appears to have been an abrupt decision” such that four employees had to tell would-be patrons that the property had closed for good. They said they themselves only learned of the closure that morning.

The casino’s owners could not be reached for comment.

Financial records obtained by the newspaper indicated that the casino operated at a $365,527 deficit in 2017. Two years before it had a $200,000 net income. But other years had large deficits, including $1.2 million in 2013.

The closure will be a blow to the city of Woodland, which collected $101,648 in taxes last year.

The Oak Tree restaurant operated in the building for about three decades. The cardroom was added in 2011 to take up the remaining space in the 48,000 square foot building.

The casino most likely fell victim to the $510 million ilani casino resort that opened two years ago just a few miles away near La Center.
