LVS Plans Strip Concert Venue

The resort giant is joining forces with Madison Square Garden Company to bring another large-scale events center to the Las Vegas Strip. Preliminary plans call for a mixed-use facility of more than 500,000 square feet with a residential component.

Documents submitted to Clark County indicate that Las Vegas Sands and Madison Square Garden Company intend to follow through with plans to jointly develop a major entertainment venue on the Las Vegas Strip.

The two companies announced last year that they were creating a “venue of the future” capable of housing large touring concerts, specially designed residences and other large-scale productions and events.

Paperwork submitted to the county on October 20 includes a diagram for a 585,000-square-foot facility situated on an 18-acre parcel LVS owns on the southeast corner of Koval Lane and Sands Avenue. A news release issued by LVS and MSGC last year indicated a capacity of 17,500 seats is planned.

In addition to superior acoustics, state-of-the-art technology will be utilized throughout the building, creating a venue of the future capable of delivering new and innovative experiences for both artists and fans,” the May 2016 statement reads. “The venue will reinvent the VIP experience, with luxurious seating options and exclusive clubs and lounges.”

County planners and staff from other agencies have a conference scheduled with the developers later this month to discuss the project and provide feedback. The next step, which may occur in December, is for the developers to submit a formal application.

Clark County Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said he has met twice with officials from Madison Square Garden Company.

If they think it can pencil, that’s a business call,” he said. “It creates more jobs and brings more people here, so that’s a good thing.”
