In response to lower than anticipated vaccination rates across the SAR, Macau gaming operations and local health officials are teaming up to boost employee vaccination rates.

Reaching immunity is now established as a key company objective, with education seminars also planned in conjunction with the Macau Health Bureau and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Confirming participation in this effort, MGM China and Melco Resorts & Entertainment have released internal program details with the same goal but different executions.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited recently announced their MOP16 million (US$2 million) plan to incentivize employees to become vaccinated. Under this new program, referred to as “Get the Jab”, each team member will receive MOP$1,000 upon becoming fully vaccinated with a potential for six employees to win MOP$1 million each if a target immunity level is reached.

Also aiding in government’s request for a community-wide vaccination system, MGM collaborated with medical staff of the Health Bureau to help organize a two-day vaccination center onsite at MGM Cotai in preparation to inoculate 1,200 team members against Covid-19.

Additionally, MGM hosted a seminar for employees titled “Post-Pandemic Era: The Road to Covid-19 Vaccine.” Hosted by Tai Wa Hou, the seminar focused on the two types of Covid-19 vaccines available in Macau with supporting information to ease concern and hesitancy.

With local news channel TDM reporting that just over 85,700 people had received their first dose and less than 50,000 or 7.8 percent of the population both doses of a Covid-19vaccine, Tai Wa Hou explained.

“Although Macau is currently a low-risk area, we should remain vigilant and understand that getting vaccinated is the most effective and long-lasting protection against the pandemic,” he said.
