Macau CE Says Digital the Key to Diversification

Speaking in Beijing on October 18, Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said the influx of digital technologies will propel the Chinese casino city’s efforts to diversify its economy.

Ho made the remarks in a speech at the High Level Forum on Digital Economy of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF), reports the Macau Post Daily. Chinese President Xi Jinping, architect of the diversification effort, gave the keynote speech.

Ho said that strengthening Macau’s digital economy and adding high-tech manufacturing will support the city’s “1+4” goals, to make Macau a center of global tourism by developing four industries: big health, finance, technology and the meetings and conventions business, as well as culture and sports.

Ho was accompanied at the summit by a delegation of officials including Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, head of the Macau Government Tourism Office.
