In Macau, the Legislative Assembly’s (AL) Follow-up Committee for Land and Public Concession is pressing the government to begin a public consultation on amendments to gaming legislation as early as possible.
Adriano Marques Ho, director of the Gaming Inspection, and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) indicated that the consultation would begin in the second half of the year, but nothing has yet been announced, reported the Macau Daily Times. The process will decide the renewal bidding process of gaming concessions and the operations of concessionaire.
AL committee members said the consultation is “not an easy task” and must be completed “within a limited time frame,” so it should be convened soon. Following the collection of opinions from the community, the data must be analyzed and summarized, after which final amendments to the bill must be drafted.
“Hence, we hope the government can make overall arrangements, and launch public consultation as early as possible,” members stated, asking the government to “make the appropriate announcements and directions to the public in due course, and ensure the legislative proceedings can be done within the scheduled time to give enough time for the industry to prepare.”
The SAR’s six gaming concessions and subconcessions are set to expire in 2022 unless local authorities order an extension.
