Macau Court Fines Former Operators

A Macau’s court has ordered the former operators of the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel and the Greek Mythology Casino to pay millions in fines for violating labor laws.

Macau’s Court of First Instance has ordered the former operators of the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel and its Greek Mythology Casino to fork over MOP$4.43 million (US$546,000) and compensation of more than MOP$20 million (US$2.5 million) for violating labor laws.

The court said Macau Hotel Developers Ltd. and Entertainment Group Corporation Ltd. must pay all outstanding salaries to 614 workers including compensation for holidays, overtime, annual leave and severance pay. The hotel and casino closed in July 2016.
