Macau Jockey Club Could Become Concert Venue

The Macau Jockey Club, which is scheduled to close on April 1, may soon serve as a concert venue, says Elsie Ao Ieong, the city’s Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture. The government may consider the race course after getting noise complaints following a concert by Korean boy band Seventeen in Taipa. The concert was held at Taipa Olympic Sports Center, adjacent to a residential area.

In a statement, the secretary said such concerts could be hosted by casino resorts in the city, but then “small and medium-sized enterprises would not be able to benefit. … The government will study the possibility of organizing concerts in locations that are either close to or far from residential areas, and if the racecourse and the Macau East Asian Games Dome have the conditions, they would also be considered for organizing concerts,” she continued.

As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the land now occupied by the Jockey Club will revert back to government ownership when racing ends. Future uses are still under consideration.
