MGTO predicts more growth in ’19

Macau welcomed a record 35.8 million visitors in 2018, an average of 98,092 incoming tourists per day. That was an increase of 9.8 percent, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office, which called it a “fair performance” amid political uncertainty.

Arrivals were boosted by the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and “concerted efforts among different tourism sectors,” the MGTO said. Ninety-one percent of the visitors hailed from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes says this year will be even better, with tourism likely to rise between 5 percent and 6 percent.
