Macau Raises Quarantines to 21 Days

The Macau government has upped its response to the Covid-19 pandemic by requiring all visitors other than from certain regions of mainland China and Taiwan to quarantine for 21 days in designated hotels.

The measure, imposed in response to a surge of the virus in Europe and the discovery of a mutant strain in the UK, requires that arrivals undergo three tests for the disease while in quarantine.

Those already in mandatory 14-day quarantine will have to stay until they complete 21 days, the government said, while those who left after completing 14 days will now have to stay in home isolation for another seven days.

According to news reports, there are more than 1,500 people currently in quarantine in the territory, most of them residents and tourists along with a handful of non-resident workers.
