GGR through September increased 15.9 percent
The Macau Financial Services Bureau reports that the government collected almost MOP80.32 billion (US$9.95 billion) in gaming taxes during the first three quarters of 2018—a 17 percent increase over the same period in 2017.
Direct taxes on gaming include taxes on gaming, Chinese lotteries, greyhound racing, horse racing and instant lotteries and tax on commissions earned by promoters of gambling junkets, reported GGRAsia.
The government taxes the gross gaming revenues from Macau’s casinos at 35 percent, but other levies on gaming make it an effective rate of 39 percent.
GGR in Macau came to MOP224.06 billion (US$27.75 billion) in the first nine months of this year, 15.9 percent more than a year earlier, reports the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. The government estimates that GGR for the full year will reach MOP230 billion and has budgeted for revenue of nearly MOP82.41 billion from direct taxes on gaming.
