The discovery of three positive Covid tests centered on one floor of a quarantine hotel has caused the government of Macau to order a Covid test for all residents and visitors of the SAR over a three day period, September 25-28. The tests were taken from one visitor who had been quarantined and two security guards who worked the floor of the hotel where the visitor was restricted.
It’s the second time in two months that the government has ordered universal testing. The first time was in early August when more than 700,000 tests returned negative. As of press time, all casinos and entertainment venues remained open, although all outdoor events and celebrations have been cancelled. The government has reserved the right to close casinos and other public areas if the tests reveal a spread of Covid.
The news comes just one week before Golden Week, the most lucrative celebration of the year for Macau casinos except for Chinese New Year, when hundreds of thousands of visitors descend upon the city.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Zhuhai, the government shortened what had been a two-week period when a visitor could arrive with a negative test to 24 hours.
