Macau to Consider Tourism Fee

Alexis Tam (l.), Macau’s secretary for social affairs and culture, says the jurisdiction is weighing the introduction of a tourist entry fee in order to attract a higher grade of visitor.

Macau to Consider Tourism Fee

Officials in Macau may consider a tourist entry fee to control burgeoning visitation and also attract “quality tourism.” According to the Macau Post Daily, the idea originated with lawmaker Agnes Lam Iok Fong and was called “interesting” by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam.

“We should attract better tourists who come to Macau to appreciate our world heritage, our culture and gastronomy, who come to consume, to stimulate the economy,” Tam said.
