Macau Visitors Must Declare Cash

Starting November 1, a new regulation requires visitors to Macau to declare cash of MOP 120,000 (US$15,000) or more. The measure is one more weapon in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

Visitors coming and going to Macau with MOP 120,000 (US,000) or more or the equivalent in checks, traveler’s checks, drafts, payment orders or promissory notes must declare the currency and use the “red channel” at customs.

The measure was adopted to fight money laundering and terrorist financing. Violators could be subject to fines.
