Forbes’ 2022 edition of its famous Travel Guide has been released, with Macau resort operators receiving a bevy of awards and distinctions, including 17 five-star hotels, which was second only to London.
The region also boasted a total of 22 five-star restaurants and 14 five-star spas. Macau’s grand total for this year’s report came in at 293 stars, which ranks in the Top 10 for global destinations.
As far as individual operators, Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Wynn Resorts were the top performers in the area, with Melco receiving 17 five-star distinctions and Wynn receiving 24, which was the most for any individual gaming company.
Both companies touted eight 5-star restaurants, with Melco tallying four top hotels to Wynn’s three. The Wynn Macau resort, however, was the best-performing individual resort in the world with eight total awards.
In a company release, Wynn CEO Craig Billings said that he was “so proud of our team” for the recent smattering of accolades, and that the “ personal dedication Wynn employees around the world have to the guest experience is unmatched.”
Similarly, Melco CEO Lawrence Ho released a statement saying that the adulation “testifies to Melco’s pledge to service quality and the Company’s contribution to pushing boundaries, especially during such a challenging time for the industry.”
In Forbes’ guide, company CEO Hermann Elger said that the travel industry “is back,” and that the sector should prepare to see a big revival as “travelers look to make up for lost time with family and friends.”
