Macau’s Studio City Opens Phase 2

On April 6, Melco Resorts & Entertainment opened the first of its Studio City Macau Phase 2 developments. According to Macau Business, the resort debuted its new Studio City Indoor Water Park and a new hotel, the Epic Tower. It’s the first significant expansion of Studio City since it opened in 2015.

The indoor water park features seven water slides, an indoor-outdoor surfing simulator, two wave pools and an 820-foot long “action river” called the Starlight Rapids. A connecting outdoor water park is set to open on April 28. Together, the two water parks will span 280,000 square feet.

“The grand opening of the Studio City indoor water park offers an all-new, all-weather and all-year-round one of its kind unique and exciting water-fun experience for guests of all ages, further strengthening the leisure entertainment components of Studio City making it an unforgettable top-notch entertainment destination,” said Melco’s Chief Operating Officer David Sisk. He added that Melco is “dedicated” to supporting the local government’s initiative to promote Macau “as the World Center of Tourism and Leisure.”

The Epic Tower adds 338 new high-tech suites to the property’s room inventory, as well as a pool and fitness center, an infrared room, a Himalayan salt sauna room and a spa.

The opening of the US$1.3 billion Studio City Phase 2 was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The second part of Studio City’s Phase 2 is set to open in the third quarter. It will include a six-screen cineplex as well as a state-of-the-art meetings and event space.
