Maine’s Oxford Casino Begins $25 Million Expansion

The Oxford Casino in Maine, owned by Churchill Downs, has begun a $25 million expansion that will include a 106-room hotel, more gaming floor and more places to eat. The Oxford celebrated its groundbreaking last week.

Maine’s Oxford Casino broke ground last week on a million expansion: a 106-room hotel that will open next year. The expansion also includes an expanded gaming floor and more dining.

Various VIPs, including Governor Paul LePage attended the ceremony at which Churchill Downs CEO Bill Mudd declared, “We are honored to continue investing in this community, to create new jobs, and generate economic development, both for Oxford and surrounding communities.”

Oxford Casino General Manager Jack Sours declared, “We’re ready to embark on a $25 million hotel project. Your support over the last four years has meant everything to us. It’s allowed us to get to this point today.”

The governor praised Kentucky-based Churchill Downs, which owns the casino for simply providing new jobs. “And the most important thing is they came to Maine, they didn’t ask for anything, they just do what they do best. And now they’re going to invest more money,” he said.

Currently the casino has 400 employees. The expansion will add another 1,000 temporary construction jobs and 60 permanent jobs.
