Maine’s Oxford Casino to expand hotel

Oxford Casino has released plans for a $25 million expansion of its existing hotel in Oxford, Maine. The casino is owned by Churchill Downs Inc.

Churchill Downs Inc., owners of the Oxford Casino in Maine has announced plans for a million hotel expansion.

The attached hotel would have over 100 guest rooms, additional casino space, additional dining and meeting areas.

This is the second expansion for the facility since Church Downs purchased it in 2013. It currently has 400 employees, and is the largest employer in Oxford. Under the expansion, that number will rise by another 60 positions, not to mention 1,000 construction jobs that will be created temporarily.

In a press release announcing the expansion, Oxford Casino General Manager Jack Sours said, “This is tremendous news for Oxford Casino, the surrounding communities, our employees and our patrons from across the region. We’re anxious to begin construction and provide our guests with this exciting new option for their visit to Oxford.”

Churchill Downs CEO Bill Mudd added, “Churchill Downs Incorporated is thrilled to expand our presence in Maine. The new hotel will be a great addition to the Oxford Casino property and is a sign of our commitment to provide a first class facility in southern Maine.”

Construction could begin in June and would be completed within about a year.

Maine has two casinos, the Hollywood Casino in Bangor and the Oxford Casino.
