During the Chinese New Year celebration, Malaysian law enforcement raided a gambling outfit in the southernmost state of Johor, arresting 181 people and seizing cash and gambling apparatus.

Malaysian police marked the Chinese New Year festivities with the raid of a gambling operation in the southernmost state of Johor, according to news accounts.

GGRAsia reported that law enforcers detained 181 people, including eight foreigners, following an investigation earlier this month. In the police action, under the code name Operation Limau, officers seized almost US$34,000 in cash and gambling paraphernalia, said Police Chief M. Kumar.

The detainees included 136 men and 37 women between the ages of 20 and 60.

Malaysia currently has only one legal casino, Resorts World Genting at Genting Highlands near the capital of Kuala Lumpur. It is operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd.
