Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting, which was supposed to have reopened by now, looks to remain on lockdown for the immediate future. The government’s phased recovery plan does not yet include a reopening timeline for casinos.

Malaysia’s RW Genting to Remain Closed

Shares in Genting Malaysia spiked more than 10 percent last week on news that Resorts World Genting in Genting Highlands, Malaysia would soon reopen. The excitement was short-lived, reported Inside Asian Gaming, as a phased recovery plan laid out by Prime Minister Yassin, which will unfold through August, does not yet include casinos.

Hotels and facilities at Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi will also remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Getting Malaysia’s properties have already been closed since mid-March with the company announcing recently that completion of its new outdoor theme park would also be delayed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
