The Mardi Gras Casino in Nitro, West Virginia cut the ribbon last week on its large remodel after 18 months of construction.
President and General Manager Eric Althaus told MetroNews: “A lot of work has been put into this renovation,” adding, “Now we can market out that the major renovation is done. You can come in and not have to worry about the sound or dislocation of slot machines, you can actually come in and take advantage of every amenity that we have.”
The improvements to the 34-year-old casino include a new lighting system, removal of the ceiling grid to add inner space, new carpets, slot machines and more chairs.
The café grill’s square footage was doubled. Walls were knocked out to add more space and improve sightlines.
The number of slot machines will stay about the same: 850, but newer games have been brought in and more machines will be added in the near future, said Althaus. “We can go up to as much as 1,000 with the floor plan that we have right now. As we get the occupancy back and come back to the property, they will see slots back that they loved to play. It may not be in the old location as it was, as the entire gaming floor changed, but we have all those same themes along with new themes.”
New gaming tables, a high limit room, new players club and promotional stage were also added.
