Mark McWhinnie Named CEO of Crown Sydney

Veteran executive Mark McWhinnie has been appointed CEO of Crown Sydney. McWhinnie had a lot of previous success in Macau with Sands China, and will look to replicate that success in Sydney as Crown continues to get back on its feet.

Australian operator Crown Resorts has named Mark McWhnnie as the new CEO of its Crown Sydney resort. The appointment is pending regulatory approval.

The veteran gaming executive has amassed decades of experience, primarily in the Asian and Australian markets. Prior to joining Crown, McWhinnie spent 13 years in various leadership roles at Sands China Ltd., including stints as head of Sands Cotai Central and the Venetian Macau.

He replaces Simon McGrath, who will vacate the position at the end of the month.

Ciarán Carruthers, CEO of Crown Resorts, said in a statement: “I’m delighted to have Mark on board to lead Crown Sydney. He is a global gaming and hospitality executive boasting an impressive track record founded on strong culture and premium service. Mark’s appointment adds to the deep industry experience at Crown and is further testament to our ability to attract strong talent to our business.”

McWhinnie added: “Crown Sydney is a world-class integrated resort and Crown has a reputation across the industry for premium service delivered by a team of talented and dedicated people. I have a strong understanding of the complexities of operating in a heavily regulated environment and will be prioritizing continued progress on the reform, remediation and cultural transformation underway across the business, while delivering an exceptional experience for our customers.

His tenure at Crown will officially commence October 4.
