The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission has approved a retail sports betting license for Bingo World, one of 17 entities named in the state’s sports wagering law as designated licensees.
Final approval of licenses is the responsibility of the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC), which took no action at its regular monthly meeting two weeks ago.
The commission also approved Rush Street Interactive as the platform supplier for Bingo World’s retail sports book.
Retail sports betting is expected to go live later this year, but mobile sports betting is not expected until next year. The sports betting law authorizes 30 retail licenses and 60 mobile licenses up for competitive bid. However, the bureaucracy, including the two-tiered approval process, has slowed things down in the state.
