Maryland County Restricts Casinos, Restaurants

Maryland’s Prince George’s County, home to the MGM National Harbor resort and casino, announced new restrictions in response to record numbers of new Covid-19 cases. In restrictions that took place December 16 and will last through January 16, indoor dining at restaurants and bars is prohibited, and the casino at MGM will be scaled back from 50 percent capacity to 25 percent capacity. Retail locations also are limited to 25 percent.

“We are headed in the wrong direction and we need to take swift action,” County Executive Angela Alsobrooks told Washington, D.C. TV station WUSA9. “These are not just numbers, but people we love.” She noted that the latest statistics amplify the danger of social gatherings. “We are now in a position where we are receiving numbers regarding Thanksgiving, and what it’s telling us is that those personal gatherings are very, very dangerous.”
