Cordish Companies’ Maryland Live! casino, in the Baltimore suburb of Hanover, has received approval from the Ann Arundel County Council to proceed with a 0 million expansion project that will add the first hotel to be offered by a Maryland gaming property.
The casino, the largest in the state (until next year’s opening of MGM National Harbor), will add an upscale hotel featuring 300 suites, a variety of dining options and luxury amenities, as well as a conference center accommodating up to 4,000.
“We extend our thanks to County Executive Schuh, Councilman Pete Smith, and all members of County Council for their thoughtful consideration and support of this important economic development initiative,” Joe Weinberg, managing partner of the Cordish Companies, said in a statement. “As a locally owned business, the Cordish Companies remains committed to Anne Arundel County, and we are committed to the growth and expansion of Maryland Live! Casino and maintaining our position as the premier gaming and entertainment destination in the State.”
The city council approval included a $22.5 million tax incremental financing bond for the infrastructure improvements for the hotel and conference center expansion, which will create 1,000 new permanent and construction jobs. The repayment of the bond will come out of new revenues generated by the hotel and conference center.
