Maryland Live! Begins Hotel Planning

Maryland Live! has begun work toward construction of a $200 million hotel and spa, to include 300 rooms and a spa facility offering a complete range of services.

Maryland Live! officials say they have begun Phase 2 of the master plan of the state’s largest casino—a 0 million, 300-room hotel and full-service spa.

David Cordish, chairman and CEO of Maryland Live! parent Cordish Companies, told the Baltimore Sun that the hotel was part of the original lease for the property, which is adjacent to the Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, a suburb of Baltimore.

“We’re now turning our attention to it,” Cordish said, noting that while not formal plans have been filed yet with county authorities, the project is taking shape. In addition to the hotel and spa, more meeting space is being considered as part or the construction.

Cordish said the hotel could open by 2016, the same year MGM Resorts is slated to open its mega-resort at National Harbor, 33 miles away. Closer to home, Horseshoe Baltimore is slated to open this summer.

Cordish told the Sun the hotel rooms will “add another weapon to our arsenal,” in that rooms will be comped for top players.
