Maryland Live! in Hanover, Maryland, the state’s largest casino, has secured a preliminary injunction against former host Helena Wong, barring her from contacting any high rollers whose contacts she allegedly took from Maryland Live! and using them to benefit her new employer, Horseshoe Baltimore.
Wong resigned her job as a VIP casino host at Maryland Live to accept a similar job at the new Horseshoe, which opened Labor Day weekend next to Baltimore’s MT Bank Stadium.
According to court documents, Wong sent an email to more than 1,000 high-end customers of Maryland Live! on August 20, urging them to come to the Horseshoe’s grand opening, and offering to set up accommodations and private gambling—ending the email, “PS: Please do not repeat or show this email to any of Maryland Live!’s personnel. This is a confidential email between us.”
Maryland Live! filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that Wong stole confidential information from the Cordish-owned casino, including a list of high rollers, and used it to lure gamblers to the Horseshoe.
Judge Marvin Garbis approved the preliminary injunction preventing her from contacting any more of the high-end gamblers on her list. Garbis directed that her address book be kept in escrow while the case is in the courts.
