Massachusetts Lottery Eyes Millennials

The Massachusetts Lottery is engaging social media and other platforms to encourage more play by millennials, and one of the hooks they’re using is the holiday season.

State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg wants to lure millennials into playing the Lottery by putting some of the games online and making them more competitive and innovative.

The state already has an ad hoc commission looking at the future of online gaming as it relates to casinos and daily fantasy sports. However, the legislature deliberately didn’t include the Lottery when it created the commission.

In an interview with 22News Goldberg said that her department is already using social media and other platforms to try to increase lottery sales, especially as holiday gifts.

“During the year and during the holidays, we’ve really expanded the use of social media and marketing and competitions between the sales offices,” she said.
