Massachusetts Tribe Rejects Slots Parlor Review

The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head rejects any proposals that it subject its Class II casino to review of the local Martha’s Vineyard Commission. The tribe insists the commission has no jurisdiction over what it builds.

The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head has categorically rejected any review of the construction of its proposed Class II slots parlor being sought by the town of Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

The tribe last year won the last of a series of court challenges to its right to build a casino on its reservation on Martha’s Vineyard when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review an appeals decision.

Nevertheless officials of the towns of Aquinnah and Chilmark have persisted in wanting some review of the project. They point out that some aspects of the project are non-gaming and will impact the town, possibly requiring municipal services. They have asked for a review by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission.

However the tribe rejects any such review for its 250 slot machine casino.
