Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban Lobbying for Texas Gaming

Mark Cuban, the well-known billionaire and star of ABC’s Shark Tank, has set his sights on a new venture that could revolutionize the entertainment industry in Texas. Cuban is advocating for the legalization of resort-style gambling, envisioning a Las Vegas-like atmosphere and a new arena for the Dallas Mavericks.

Cuban believes that Texas lacks a true vacation destination, and he sees resort gaming as the solution. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, he expressed his desire to create a change within the state and draw more people to Texas for its amenities and entertainment offerings. “There’s no real destination that you save up for,” Cuban said. “That’s a problem, and I think resort gaming would have a huge impact.”

To bring his vision to life, Cuban has plans to partner with Las Vegas Sands and build a new arena in the heart of a resort and casino. By combining world-class entertainment with resort-style gambling, Cuban aims to create a unique and captivating experience for visitors.

“My goal, and we’d partner with Las Vegas Sands, is when we build a new arena it’ll be in the middle of a resort and casino,” Cuban told the Morning News. “That’s the mission.”

While a new stadium is not yet underway, Cuban remains hopeful that it will become a reality for the Dallas Mavericks in the future.

Despite Cuban’s enthusiasm, the road to legalizing resort-style gambling in Texas is not without obstacles. In May, the Texas House rejected legislation supported by Las Vegas Sands that would have paved the way for the kind of resorts Cuban envisions. However, Cuban remains undeterred and continues to advocate for the legalization of resort gaming.

While waiting for progress on the resort gaming front, Cuban has not been idle. In April, $18.5 million was invested in the American Airlines Center, the current home of the Mavericks. This investment went towards upgrading video boards and seats, enhancing the overall experience for fans. Cuban recognizes that Dallas is a passionate sports town and believes in investing in its sports infrastructure.

Aside from his involvement in the sports and entertainment industry, Cuban is also focused on growing his company, Cost Plus Drugs. With a mission to disrupt the pharmaceutical industry, Cuban is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible healthcare solutions.

Cuban’s entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond his own ventures. He recently spoke at Chase’s Make Your Move Summit in Frisco, Texas, where he addressed hundreds of business owners, encouraging entrepreneurship and sharing his personal success story. According to Cuban, “It’s always a good time to be an entrepreneur in Dallas, Texas.” His words serve as inspiration to aspiring business owners in the region.
