McCarran Sets New Passenger Record

July was the Las Vegas airport’s best month ever. Volume hit 4.32 million passengers, breaking a record set back in August 2007, and officials believe the McCarran International Airport (l.) is well on the way in 2017 to handling more travelers than it ever has before.

With a boost from five full weekends, July saw 4.32 million passengers pass through Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, breaking a monthly record that stood for 10 years.

“These numbers reflect a continuation of the strong Las Vegas demand we have seen from our air carrier partners over the first half of this year,” said Chris Jones, a spokesman for the Clark County Aviation Department.

“Barring anything unexpected, I don’t foresee things slowing down much until we get closer to the end of the calendar year.”

July also marked the fifth consecutive month that the nation’s eighth-busiest airport logged more than 4 million passengers, with traffic growing by 3.8 percent compared to the same month in 2016.

More than 3.91 million travelers boarded or arrived on domestic flights, a 3.9 percent increase over July 2016. International flights carried 318,920 travelers, a 2.4 percent increase.

Year to date through July, 28.1 million passengers have flown in or out of McCarran, a 2.4 percent increase over the first seven months of 2016, and county Aviation Director Rosemary Vassiliadis said she expects the airport will break the annual record of 47.8 million passengers set in 2007, which also saw the previous monthly record set (in August) of 4.3 million passengers.
