Melbourne’s Southbank will be the site of a 90-story tower that will connect to the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex, across Queensbridge Street. The government of Victoria last week approved of the building, which will be the tallest in Australia.
The six-star hotel will have 388 rooms and more than 700 apartments. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews predicted that the project would create 4,000 jobs, 3000 of them temporary and the other 1,000 permanent.
Andrews told reporters, “It’s not just about height though, the quality of this design outcome, particularly the public realm benefits that will be accessible for all Victorians, really mark this out as a very, very special project.”
The project could break ground as early as 2018. It will take about six years to complete. Although the tower will connect to the casino complex, it will offer no gaming.
