Melco Crown Employees Earn Degrees In-House

Melco Crown Entertainment managers and supervisors who have worked for the Macau company at least five years may earn a bachelors degree in casino management in-house. Called MCE YOU-niversity, the program is offered in conjunction with Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland.

Employees of Melco Crown Entertainment now may earn a bachelors degree program in casino management through Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. Called MCE YOU-niversity, the program offers managers or supervisors, who have been employed at MCE properties at least five years, an opportunity to enter a four-year degree in the third year. Most of the courses will be offered in Macau, with some input from teachers at Edinburg Napier University.

Akiko Takahashi, MCE executive vice president and chief human resources and corporate social responsibility officer, said the company is committed to promoting in-house career opportunities. He said he preferred to “lose people to ourselves than to lose them to competitors.” He added the program allows employees to participate in jobs “they’d like to try.” MCE will cover tuition fees providing students promise to remain at the company for a set time following graduation.
