Market cap in place until 2022
The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, or DICJ, has announced the introduction of new-to-market gaming tables in the casino hub.
On January 1 Melco Resorts & Entertainment was awarded 40 new-to-market mass-market gaming tables and MGM China Holdings Ltd. was granted 25 tables for its MGM Cotai resort. The regulator did not specify if the MGM tables are for the mass-market or VIP segment.
The new tables were promised to the resorts last year.
Since 2013, the jurisdiction has maintained a 3 percent yearly cap on new-to-market tables; the limits will remain in effect until December 2022. In an email to GGRAsia, the DICJ has promised that it will continue to “strictly control the number of gaming tables” in the market “to foster orderly development” of the industry. “Comprehensive analysis and consideration will be made by the government upon receiving any application for new gaming tables from gaming operators,” it added.
In December 2018, there were 6,588 live-dealer tables in the Macau market.
