Merkur Sports & Gaming, a subsidiary of Germany’s Gauselmann Group, has named Mathias Dahms as managing director.
Dahms is stepping down from his previous role as operations manager of the XTiP sports betting brand in Germany to concentrate on the core task of positioning the Gauselmann Group for the sports betting market in Germany, which will be licensed in future.
The regulation of the sports betting market in Germany as of 2020 will bring many new challenges for the companies. Dahms will work closely with the management of Merkur Sportwetten and will strategically further develop sports betting in the Gauselmann Group. The most important issues for the future include convergence and the digital transformation of various gaming platforms that the group currently offers.
Dahms is also president of the German Sports Betting Association (Deutscher Sportwettenverband, or DSWV) since its establishment in 2014, and was recently confirmed in the office for a further five years. The association, which has its headquarters in Berlin, is a political lobby group representing the interests of sports betting companies in Germany.
