Las Vegas-based Metric Gaming LLC, a leading provider of sports wagering software and services, announced the appointment of its former chairman of the board, Peter Bertilsson, as the company’s new president and chief executive officer, and that Louis Castle has been appointed chairman of the board to replace him.
Bertilsson has been a top-level gaming executive and consultant since the late 1990s, during which time he has developed extensive experience and expertise in both the online and retail gaming sectors.
As a CEO, Bertilsson enjoys a stellar track record, having previously led Swedish-based Boss Media from operating at a loss in 2001 to becoming the best-performing stock on the Swedish stock exchange within three years. In 2010, Bertilsson joined bwin Games AB (formerly Ongame), a subsidiary of the then-world’s largest publicly traded online gambling company, to head the company’s poker network division. Within two years, under his leadership, bwin successfully sold the Ongame division in a structured auction to Amaya Gaming (now the world’s largest publicly traded online gaming company).
“Metric Gaming is one of the most innovative companies I have seen in my twenty years in this industry,” said Bertilsson. “It has been a pleasure serving as Metric’s chairman, and I am thrilled with this opportunity to take over the reins as CEO and help this company reach its full and tremendous potential.”
Bertilsson will be moving to Las Vegas at the end of September to work full-time as CEO out of Metric’s headquarters. He is taking over the position from Metric’s founder, Martin de Knijff, who will remain a director and assume the role of Metric’s Head of Business and Product Development.
Castle joins Metric’s board as chairman after having served as Shuffle Master’s chief strategy officer since October 2011, following his tenure as a member of Shuffle Master’s Board for six years. Castle has also previously served as vice president of studios at Zynga Inc., CEO of InstantAction, Inc. and vice president of creative development at the Los Angeles studio of Electronic Arts, Inc. He also was co-founder of Westwood Studios, an entertainment software company that was subsequently acquired by Electronic Arts.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Louis Castle to chair Metric Gaming’s board,” said Bertilsson, remarking that “Lou is not only a friend but a highly experienced industry professional, who will undoubtedly bring to our company extraordinary value and strategic vision.”
“I am delighted to be joining Metric Gaming’s Board,” said Castle. “Metric Gaming has developed some uniquely compelling technology and continues to push the envelope of sports wagering innovation. I very much look forward to using my experience in gaming and entertainment software to contribute to Metric’s ongoing success.”
