Mexico Won’t Grant New Casino Licenses

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has instructed the Directorate of Games and Raffles of the Ministry of the Interior not to issue new casino licenses.

Only changes of address for gaming venues or openings of facilities that already had been granted permits are being allowed.

Minister Adán Augusto López will continue to enforce the zero tolerance policy toward corruption in the gaming industry, which, in Mexico, has in past eras been notorious for corruption. This will include surprise inspections, where gaming rooms will be required to show required documentation.

The ministry will also continue to fight against illegal gambling.
