MGIA’s Choi Gets Six Months

Charlie Choi, chairman of the Macau Gaming Information Association, has been convicted of breaching the city’s privacy laws and sentenced to six months behind bars.

Charlie Choi, chairman of the Macau Gaming Information Association, will serve six months in prison for violating the city’s privacy laws, according to Inside Asia Gaming.

Choi did not comply with an order for Macau’s Judiciary Police to delete the information of indebted gamblers from the “Wonderful World” website, the news outlet reported. In 2013, Choi was charged with a similar violation, allegedly publishing personal information about players who did not repay gambling debts. The following year authorities ordered him to delete the information.

Choi contends that he is not the owner of Wonderful World and so cannot shut it down. He promised to appeal the decision against him.
