John Shigley, chief operating officer in charge of gaming for MGM China Holdings Ltd. will leave the company sometime in 2018, the company recently confirmed to GGRAsia.
“John will leave Macau later in the year. MGM China is conducting a search for a successor,” according to an email statement from the gaming operator.
The company statement said Shigley will return to the United States “to be closer to his growing family.” Shigley has spent the last eight years in Asia and a total of 16 years with MGM Resorts International, the parent company of MGM China. It is not known if he will stay on with the Las Vegas-based operator.
GGRAsia reported that Shigley “played a key role” in the February launch of the US$3.4 billion MGM Cotai. In addition, according to filings by MGM China, he had responsibility for “casino operations, casino marketing, VIP marketing and VIP operations” at MGM Macau, the group’s first Macau venue on the peninsula.
Shigley was also involved with the pre-opening phase of the Grand Ho Tram Strip resort in Vietnam, which at one time had a branding and management deal with MGM Resorts. In March 2013, MGM said in a U.S. filing that it was severing the relationship because the project promoters missed several development deadlines.
