Michael Neubecker, president and chief operating officer of MGM Grand Detroit, has been named president and COO of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
He succeeds Trevor Scherrer as head of the Strip megaresort.
It’s Neubecker’s second stint with the Grand, having served at one point as a senior vice president and chief financial officer. A Michigan native, he took over the top job at MGM Detroit in July 2016 after eight years at the Grand.
Scherrer, a 30-year industry veteran, is a former executive vice president of operations at the Mirage. He also held executive-level positions at Bellagio and the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and at the corporate offices of parent MGM Resorts International.
No reason was given for his departure, which comes in the midst of a year-long exodus of top management from MGM Resorts in the aftermath of the company’s announcement of a broad-based initiative to cut corporate overhead and streamline operations and services.
