MGM Resorts International is making a play for the Millennials, known for keeping their noses next to their Smartphones rather than slot machines, like their parents and grandchildren. MGM has introduced mobile slot tournaments at all of its properties—becoming the first casino to do so.
Lovell Walker, director of interactive gaming for MGM Resorts told 3 New Las Vegas, “The slot machine isn’t what’s going to be the attraction for them. It’s going to be what they’re comfortable with what’s in their hand 18 out of the 24 hours of the day.” He noted that the trend is to switch “everything in gaming” to mobile platforms.
Of course you won’t be able to play MGM mobile slots just anywhere. You have to be on an MGM casino property and connected to a wifi network.
Slots are the just beginning. Expect to see blackjack, video poker and even a Candy Crush imitation available on mobile phones.
Players will be able to sign up for tournaments, paying a small fee for the chance to win a tournament and cash.
Currently many millennials like to play games on their phones and to participate in games with their friends, such as trivia games. Usually all they get is the glory of winning such a game. But knowing that they can also win cash will definitely be a selling point with many.
And MGM is counting on that to become a popular trend.
