MGM Resorts International has named George Kliavkoff president of entertainment and sports, overseeing the company’s entertainment and sports operations in 30 theaters, showrooms and arenas.
He will be based in Las Vegas and report directly to MGM President Bill Hornbuckle.
Kliavkoff takes the place of Richard Sturm, who held the position for many years until he left MGM to form a consulting firm, Las Vegas Live Entertainment and Sports, that will have an exclusive three-year contract with MGM.
Kliavkoff’s responsibilities will encompass finance, strategy, booking, marketing, sponsorships, and ticketing for MGM’s entertainment venues, such as its T-Mobile Arena, MGM Grand Garden and Park Theater, all in Las Vegas. It also operates entertainment venues at the MGM National Harbor and the MassMutual Center at MGM in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Hornbuckle greeted the new appointment by commenting: “George is joining our company at an exciting time and will play a key role as we both build on existing successful partnerships as well as continue to expand our industry-leading sports and entertainment offerings.”
Kliavkoff has more than two decades’ experience in top media and entertainment companies as an executive and was, just before joining MGM, CEO of Jaunt Inc., an augmented and virtual reality start-up whose customers ranged from Disney to the NFL and Uber.
