The .4 billion MGM National Harbor will open Thursday, December 8, near Washington D.C. on the banks of the Potomac River in Prince George’s County, Maryland. MGM National Harbor President Lorenzo Creighton said, “After years of planning, designing and developing, we are thrilled that the moment is almost upon us to share this very special resort with the community and visitors from around the world. We are grateful to Prince George’s County, the state of Maryland and all of the local designers, artisans and businesses that have collaborated with us to deliver this international resort with very local roots.”
General Manager Bill Boasberg added, “On December 8, MGM National Harbor will introduce something unprecedented to one of the country’s most popular travel destinations. Under one roof, guests will enjoy a sophisticated hotel experience, high-energy casino, celebrity chef restaurants, world-class entertainment, nightlife, destination spa, upscale retail and curated art, complemented by incredible panoramas of D.C., Maryland and Virginia.”
Guests will enter the property through the stunning two-story, 15,000 square foot Conservatory, featuring fabulous seasonal floral displays created by famed designer Ed Libby. “Every display will be a feast for the senses. My intention is to take traditional elements that evoke the feelings of each season and use them in non-traditional ways: the holidays without evergreens, springtime in Washington without cherry blossom trees, or at least not in the style one might expect. The idea is to create a series of seasonal installations that require a cerebral interpretation, while maintaining the glamorous and thoughtful aesthetic synonymous with MGM National Harbor.”
The property’s 125,000 square foot casino will offer more than 3,300 slots, table games and poker.
MGM National Harbor’s 308 rooms and suites will range from 400 to 3,210 square feet, featuring modern functionality, signature wood millwork accents and floor-to-ceiling windows. Nightly room rates start at $399 and suite rates begin at $599.
Dining options will include the creations of acclaimed chefs José Andrés, Marcus Samuelsson and Bryan and Michael Voltaggio, with nine distinct venues inspired by local and global flavors. Pan-Asian restaurant Ginger will serve authentic cuisine from regions throughout Asia. TAP Sports Bar will offer regionally inspired comfort food. And Bellagio Pâtisserie, a European-inspired pastry shop, will feature a 26-foot-tall fountain circulating nearly two tons of sumptuous melted chocolate.
The 3,000-seat entertainment venue will offer the biggest acts and events in the industry, including A-list concerts, comedy shows, UFC fights, boxing matches and other special events.
Two distinct venues designed by Las Vegas’ Clique Hospitality will include Felt Bar & Lounge, an indoor/outdoor lounge featuring the region’s first tableside mixology program; and Blossom Cocktail Lounge, inspired by Washington, D.C.’s famed cherry blossoms.
MGM National Harbor also will offer 50,000 square feet of versatile meeting space, including the 16,200 square foot MGM Grand Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and a 6,000-square-foot terrace with spectacular views. Meetings, receptions and other social gatherings can be accommodated at the flexible 3,000-seat Theater at MGM National Harbor with VIP suites and scalable chair and table designs, and the outdoor Potomac Plaza with breathtaking views of the nation’s capital, fountains and reflecting pools.
The specially curated Heritage Collection of art will be on view throughout the resort’s public spaces, featuring commissioned and procured artwork by renowned local and international sculptors, photographers and mixed-media artists including Bob Dylan, Margaret Boozer, Alice Aycock, Ron Beverly, Martha Jackson Jarvis, Sam Gilliam, John Dreyfuss, John Safer, Liao Yibai and Chul Hyun Ahn, among others.
The 27,000 square foot Spa & Salon will allow guests to replenish their mind, body and spirit in soothing, minimal, light-soaked spaces. Also, a spacious fitness center located adjacent to the salon, will feature a wide variety of cardio machines and free weights, all overlooking the resort’s outdoor, heated, infinity-edge pool, complete with plush seating, private cabanas and poolside cocktail service.
And finally, MGM National Harbor will feature 18,000 square feet of luxury retail; brands will be announced soon.
