MGM National Harbor is ready to launch sports betting once it’s OK’d by Maryland regulators. Its BetMGM Sportsbook & Lounge, which will accommodate 350 patrons, offers a 110-foot-long wraparound video screen, recliner seating, bar, seven betting windows and 17 kiosks.
The state is accepting sports betting license applications from six casinos, two racetracks, three sports stadiums, five off-track betting operators and two bingo halls. Wagers could be taken by late fall or early winter, according to regulators.
According to MGM Resorts International, the 8,000 square-foot sports lounge, which will also include a DJ booth and radio studio, will be an “archetype” for all future MGM sportsbooks. Access will be only from the casino, not from the adjacent National Market.
Guests at the bar will sit under a 360-degree halo screen projecting games, from which there will be no bad seats. Two other bars in the resort will get betting windows and kiosks.
The sports lounge will open in mid-October first as a food and beverage lounge—until sports betting licenses are approved.
