With football season just a month away, MGM Resorts race and sports book are looking forward to being the next in line to offer mobile wagering for race and sports wagering. MGM simply realized that in order to compete with the growing and competitive market, it had to adapt.
Instead of merely catching up though, MGM is hoping to set the gold standard for the future. “ MGM Resorts race and sports vice president Jay Rood said, “We’re feverishly working toward giving the state the most advanced wagering technology.”
MGM has partnered with IGT who will handle the technology and software for the company. Part of the system IGT will be creating is for guests to be able to use their M Life card everywhere. “Card members are going to be able to integrate their race and sports play right into points on their card with slot and table games,” said Rood. “With their ‘virtual wallet’ they’ll be able to jump onto any machine in the casino and play any type of game they like, including race and sports, slots, poker, keno and table games.”
One of the challenges facing services which offer mobile wagering in the state of Nevada is to get through to tourists that the wagering is allowed. “Visitors from out of state might be surprised with the notion of being able to make phone wagers while not being a resident of Nevada. As long as they make the wager from within Nevada state lines, it’s legal and allowed no matter where their residence,” said Rood.
