MGM Resorts International’s multifaceted arts program, MGM Resorts Art & Culture, will serve as the Official Partner of the Public sector at the 15th edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach, Florida. Produced in collaboration with the Bass Museum of Art, the Public sector, featuring 20 artists, will be on view November 30 through December 4 at Collins Park in Miami Beach. MGM Resorts International Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Murren said, “Art Basel is the preeminent art show in the country and we are privileged to be the Public sector’s first partner in support of these tremendous works of art. MGM Resorts recognizes the power art has to be transformative and we are committed to engaging with public art not only within our resorts but at important events such as Art Basel.”
MGM Resorts’ world-class brands–including Bellagio, MGM Grand, ARIA and Mandalay Bay—all feature impressive art collections. In fact, ARIA, which opened in 2009, featured the first major permanent collection of public art in Las Vegas, and today it is one of one of the world’s largest and corporate art collections in existence. Nick Cave, Isa Genzken, David Hockney, Jenny Holzer, Maya Lin, Richard Long, Henry Moore, Claes Oldenburg, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Nancy Rubins, Frank Stella, James Turrell and Andy Warhol are some of the artists whose works are included in MGM Resorts’ collections.
Recently, MGM Resorts collaborated with the Nevada Museum of Art and Art Production Fund to sponsor Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains. On view in the Nevada desert through May 2018, it is one of the largest land-based art installations of the last 40 years.
MGM National Harbor will introduce the MGM National Harbor Heritage Collection, inspired by the Capital Region’s rich culture and history, when the resort opens December 8 in Maryland. MGM commissioned and procured works by local artists, including a large-scale sculpture created by musician, artist and Nobel Prize-winner Bob Dylan.
